The Little Tokyo Service Center Community Development Corporation (LTSC) works in partnership with over 150 organizations in the ethnically diverse Little Tokyo district of Los Angeles, providing affordable housing, support for small businesses, counseling, historic preservation, literacy programs for youth and adults, and more.

Today, LTSC is using its support from Partners in Progress (PIP) to establish a Cultural EcoDistrict model in Little Tokyo during the building of a new light rail station in the heart of the neighborhood. Through this model, LTSC hopes to build more walkable streets, foster greener energy and water management, while still preserving the Japanese culture and traditions that have been a part of the area for 130 years. The development program balances community priorities for affordable housing and new commercial space with cultural preservation and sustainable development.

LTSC has worked closely with residents and local partners to maintain the community’s voice, ensuring that the neighborhood as well as the city will benefit from the significant expansion of public transit and redevelopment in the region. The PIP grant will enable LTSC to strengthen and expand its existing community partnerships, bring in new technical experts, and build public sector support for the project.
