LINC Housing has a 30-year track record of developing quality affordable housing in low-income neighborhoods. The organization is furthering its mission to transform poor neighborhoods in Los Angeles County by exploring new integrated housing and healthcare models that expand access to health and supportive services for residents who are often isolated and underserved.
As a community quarterback, LINC is accelerating its efforts to bring together local partners to identify and develop a model for housing developments with integrated health and social services that will address the pressing medical needs of the area’s low-income families, seniors, formerly homeless, and other vulnerable populations.
Connecting Housing and Health in Los Angeles
Through its work in distressed communities in Los Angeles County, LINC has seen that no single organization can provide the housing, medical care, counseling, food, and services needed to successfully transform a neighborhood—but that transformation requires all of these elements. Recognizing the crucial connection between health, housing, and other social factors, LINC has integrated housing with supportive services on a project-by-project basis. The PIP program will support LINC’s efforts to establish a new model that can be replicated across the county’s low-income communities.
Through Partners in Progress, LINC is building a coalition of housing, community development, health, and policy professionals to explore and develop new models. It will identify possible sites for redevelopment into mixed-use housing projects that feature onsite clinics, sustainable building features, and supportive resident services such as health education, nutrition workshops, child care, and exercise classes. LINC is also researching other successful integrated housing and health models and policies that support these approaches. Its vision is to meet people where they are by leveraging affordable housing to address the pressing health needs of low-income residents.
